Cory Tarver
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Certified Professional Counseling Supervisor ( CPCS)
Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP)
Internal Relationship Focusing (IRF)- In training
My therapeutic approach is using a combination of Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Internal Relationship Focusing (IRF). I have over 5 years in working with trauma survivors of various types and forms of trauma. I receive regular, ongoing case consultations from experts in the field and continue to assist in Somatic Experiencing trainings around the United States. Body psychotherapy is a form of therapy that includes talk therapy but it also takes into account a person's bodily sensations, body language or gestures, the 5 senses, one's spirituality and other aspects of the human experience.
I specialize in helping adults and teens who are suffering from problematic sexual behavior. I also enjoy helping those who have suffered narcissistic (emotional) abuse. In addition, I see couples where I like to use my somatic experiencing skills to interrupt and slow down conflict when it arises.
I spent my early years out of school working with clients battling chemical addiction behaviors. I observed that often a different addictive behavior arises whenever a client ceased a certain behavior, which led me into the area of psychological trauma. Psychological trauma can live deep in the body and can be sensed, for example, in the form of physical pain. So helping clients get awareness and resolution with these deep, bodily processes is necessary to decrease stress. If you are looking for sobriety then I would be excited to show you how you can achieve stronger boundaries, discharge rage, decrease anxiety and depression, reduce shame and guilt, and improved your relationships. I look forward to meeting you where you are at, going at your pace, and helping you become the best person you can be.
I also help people with many other symptoms listed here.
I currently have a private practice and work out of my home. There is space to meet indoors, outdoors, or online (telehealth). To get started click the Schedule Appointment button to register and schedule your first session. I look forward to meeting you where you are at and getting started.
